Who can apply:

• Want to extend your work permit
• Need to make changes to the conditions of working in the work permit like the type of work, the employer you can work for and the place of work.
• Your work permit is still valid for 30 days.
• The expiry date on your passport does not fall before the requested end date of your permit.

Maintain your status

If you apply to extend or change the conditions of your work permit before it expires, you’re legally allowed to stay in Canada while we process your application.

If your work permit expires while we process your application, find out if you can keep working.

Applicants are eligible if their:

• The employer gets a New Labor Market opinion
• A new contract has been signed with the employer
• Application for a new work permit is submitted before the expiry of the current one

You cannot start working at a different job or for a new employer until you get your work permit with the new conditions.

You need to apply online and the processing time for online application is 181 days.

If your application is approved, you’ll get:

• An extension on your current work permit or
• A work permit with new conditions.
