This round capped a record-tying week. Across 4 to 7 August, IRCC ran four Express Entry draws in four straight days, for the Provincial Nominee Program, Canadian Experience Class, French-language proficiency and Transport occupations, issuing 8,807 invitations in total. Four draws in a single week matches the all-time high, and it is only the eighth week in Express Entry history to reach that pace, six of them in 2026. On this specific round, the 470 cut-off applies only to the Transport occupations category and is not a general Express Entry threshold. With just 300 invitations and an older tie-break date, it cleared eligible Transport candidates down to the cut-off.

What Is the Comprehensive Ranking System?

The Comprehensive Ranking System is the points formula IRCC uses to rank everyone sitting in the Express Entry pool. It does not decide whether you are eligible. It decides who gets invited first. Two candidates can both qualify for the same program and only one of them will ever receive an invitation, and the CRS is the reason why.

How Are CRS Points Awarded?

Your CRS score is a key determinant of your ranking in the Express Entry pool. Points are awarded in the following categories, with a total maximum score of 1,200 points:

Core/Human Capital Factors

(Maximum 500 points for single applicants or 460 points if accompanied by a spouse/common-law partner)

Age, education, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience contribute to this category, with points allocated based on your level of achievement in each factor.

Skill Transferability Factors

(Maximum 100 points)

Points are awarded for combinations of your skills, such as education and language proficiency or work experience and language skills, enhancing your score based on your ability to transfer these skills to the Canadian economy.

Spouse/Common-Law Partner Factors

(Maximum 40 points)

If applicable, your spouse’s or partner’s education, language skills, and Canadian work experience can add points to your total score.

Additional Factors

(Maximum 600 points):

Bonus points are available for a provincial nomination (600 points), Canadian study experience (up to 30 points), a sibling in Canada (15 points), and French language skills (up to 50 points).
Rule change

A job offer is now worth zero CRS points

On 25 March 2025 IRCC removed job offer points from the Comprehensive Ranking System, for existing and new profiles alike. The 50 points for most skilled occupations and the 200 points for senior management no longer exist.

This is the single most common piece of outdated advice still circulating, and it has real consequences. People have paid for LMIA backed job offers on the understanding that it would lift their score. It will not. A job offer still matters for eligibility, including ten points in the Federal Skilled Worker sixty-seven point grid and as a requirement in the Federal Skilled Trades Program, but it will not move your rank in the pool.

How Do You Raise Your CRS Score?

There are only four levers that move a score by enough to matter, and they are not equally available to everyone. Work out which one is realistic for you before you spend money on any of them.

  • Language
    the cheapest and fastest lever. Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 across all four abilities is worth far more than most people expect, and it also unlocks skill transferability points. Retake the test before you conclude your score is fixed.
  • French
    up to 50 additional points, and French language proficiency has its own category based draws. For many candidates this is the single largest gain available.
  • Education and experience
    a further credential or another year of skilled work can help, but both take time and the returns taper. Have the credential assessed before you assume it will count.
  • Provincial nomination
    600 points, which makes an invitation effectively certain. It is also the hardest to obtain and the slowest, and eligibility is set by each province rather than by IRCC.

A job offer is not on this list, and has not been since 25 March 2025. Anyone telling you to buy one to raise your score is working from rules that no longer exist.

What CRS score do I need in 2026?
It depends entirely on which round you are competing in. In July 2026 a Canadian Experience Class round cut off at 516 while French language rounds cut off at 399 and 420 and a senior managers round cut off at 392. The category you qualify for matters more than the raw score.
Does a job offer still add CRS points?
No. Points for arranged employment were removed in 2025. A job offer can still matter through a provincial nomination or by building Canadian work experience, but it no longer adds to the score.
What is the fastest way to raise a CRS score?
For most candidates it is language. Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 across all four abilities raises both core points and skill transferability points at once, and it can be done in weeks.

Does having a job offer increase my CRS score?
Yes, having a valid job offer from a Canadian employer can significantly increase your CRS score. The number of points you receive depends on the nature of the job offer:
  • Arranged Employment with LMIA: For most job offers, an employer needs to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to prove that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job and that no Canadian worker is available. A valid job offer supported by an LMIA can add 50 points to your CRS score for NOC skill level 0, A, or B jobs, and up to 200 points for NOC 00 jobs (managerial positions).
  • Exemptions from LMIA: In certain cases, such as Intra-Company Transfers (ICTs) and other LMIA-exempt categories, you can still claim additional points for a job offer without needing an LMIA. These situations are typically governed by international agreements (like Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA)) or are in Canada's national interest. For these LMIA-exempt job offers, you can gain 50 points towards your CRS score.
